Today while rummaging around Facebook I saw a photo album that one of my friends from the United World College had posted from when he went home to Afghanistan last Summer. There were more than 200 photos and I was just blown away! They were so beautiful with unbelievable views, gorgeous monuments, cute little children, and more. It made me think about the preconceived notions that we all have of various locations. When we think of Afghanistan or see it on the news- it tends to be very negative. Though that definitely does exist in the war torn country, there is also astonishing beauty. I think we should focus more on the positive and more on what links us all through our common humanity. I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I do and that you think deeply about how they can alter your perceptions.
All photos were taken in Summer 2011 by Arif Jamil and it is with his permission that I post them here.
